STYLE SETTER: ALICIA SMITH

Benefitting SBP

Entrepreneur Alicia Smith is an expert at forging new ground thanks to her independent spirit and keen business acumen. As a philanthropist and volunteer, Alicia is known for her generous and giving spirit. As a wife and a mother, she is passionate about her close-knit family and considers her most cherished and meaningful role, being a mother to her three sons – Lance Jr., Cole and Chandler – and wife to her husband Lance.

Alicia’s business savvy has led to high-profile appointments including the board of directors of the Women’s Business Enterprise Alliance, The Houston Ballet, the Southwest Regional Board of Directors for UNICEF, Palmer Drug Abuse Program, the International Women’s Forum and she sits on the Advisory Board of Houston PetSet.

Alicia has been honored by many organizations for her influence, style and contributions to the community. Some of these recognitions include 2007 Woman of Distinction, being named one of the 25 Most Beautiful Houstonians by HTexas Magazine in 2007, 2009 and 2015, an Haute Mom by Icon Magazine, a Houston Sweetheart, 2014 Social Book Houston Treasure , 2015 Community Champion by Texas Children’s Cancer Center, 2017 Woman of Substance, one of Houston’s 50 Most Influential Women of 2017, the top WBE CEO of 2017, and she was recently included in the 2018 Houston Chronicle’s Best Dressed list.

Fashion and philanthropy are always a dynamic duo, as a Fashion X Houston Style Setter honoree, Alicia proudly supports SBP. SBP, a national disaster resilience and recovery nonprofit, was chosen by the JJ Watt Foundation to be a recipient and distributor of $8.5 million targeted to rebuilding homes for disaster impacted families across the Houston area. The JJ Watt Foundation, after its extraordinary fundraising efforts, designated SBP to be the agency responsible for overseeing its home rebuilding initiatives through an $8.5 million grant. With $3.5 million of this, SBP is rebuilding 100 homes in year one, and is granting the remaining funds to five other rebuilding nonprofits, whose combined work will add another 100 completed homes this year. It’s hard to imagine, but there are still thousands of families across our city who have not yet returned home! SBP has committed to stay in our community and rebuild homes until recovery is complete, but they need our support to continue to impact our community.
